JTG Women Entrepreneur Digital Literacy Program

The digital literacy program is helping women entrepreneurs have the skills needed to live, learn, and work in a society where communication and access to information are increasingly through digital technologies like internet platforms, social media, and mobile devices.

Digital transformation offers unique opportunities for entrepreneurial women and opens them up to a digital world, innovative business ideas, and growth opportunities are within their grasp.

The opportunities provided by technology and ICTs for women entrepreneurs are in digital commerce, digital services, and other novel entrepreneurial opportunities that will continue to unfold.

For this reason, we could not let the Northern Cape Women Entrepreneurs be left behind.

It is therefore vital that access to ICTs is provided to women to ensure that digital solutions and the efficiencies they provide enable women to thrive in their micro, small, and/or medium-sized entrepreneurial ventures.

Access To Market Using Technology

Post Covid-19, digital technology has become a lifeline for millions around the world, and a critical tool to cope with the crisis and its aftermath. It is now or never; Women Entrepreneurs need to be digitally empowered. Today technology is a core part of everyday life.

Almost every day we use smartphones, tablets, and computers to search for information, navigate to new places, pay bills and connect with our family and friends. The number of digital tools at our disposal is endless, however, many women are still struggling digitally. Smartphones offer a range of new ways to communicate, network, and learn. If women don’t know how to utilize digital tools, their businesses will suffer. It is therefore important to build capacities through skills training and complement that with digital equipment.

Objectives of the JTG women entrepreneur Bootcamp

  • ICT interventions that are directed at economically empowering women capitalize on the potential of these technologies as knowledge and networking tools for women as producers and distributors of goods and services.
  • To connect women to new and wider markets, broaden their social networks and provide them with information that opens up important economic opportunities.

Sumeya General Trading Business Card

First Business Launch

Mme Re Ka Thusa Trust Fund is doing its first business launch.

We are too excited! The countdown has started!

The business that we are launching is in Colesberg, Pixley Ka Seme District

Sumeya General Trading (Pty) Ltd is a roof sheet manufacturing business, i.e.; corrugated iron and IBR. Sumeya is one of the only 2 businesses found in the Northern Cape that manufacture roof sheets. The other roof manufacturing business is in the Namakwa District. This opportunity presents wonderful returns as the market is wide open for another player.

Franchises for building materials and other private retailers are currently procuring these goods from outside the province. This spikes up the pricing and, to some extent, causes delays when supply is lacking, especially during times when there are some unforeseen circumstances like a hard lockdown and the recent unrest experienced.

Sumeya General Trading Business Card

Sumeya General Trading secured funding from the NC economic development department and managed to buy the production machine. SEDA managed to acquire an QMS for the enterprise and have continually been giving non-financial support to the business such as developing a business plan. Together with SEDA, Pixley Ka Seme District came on-board by helping to refine the business plan particularly looking at the financial plan of the concept and gave it a bankable sense and also continues to give necessary support where needed.

Mme Re Ka Thusa Trust Fund has supported a lot of businesses financially and non-financially. The question that will come is, why is Sumeya General Trading the first business we are launching?
Sumeya is one of the businesses that didn’t just wait for handouts. What is encouraging is that the business also invested over half a million rand to cover the shortfall and secure a rental space.

To us, this shows the character of one who truly believes in the success of their business and is not afraid to take calculated risk.

Mme Re Ka Thusa Trust Fund is a developmental institution that offers non-financial and financial services. We come to your business, assess it, and help your business to be sustainable. When there is a need for financial support and your business is fund-ready, financial assistance is then made available. In some instances, such as this one, the funding required is beyond our threshold. This is where we engage all relevant stakeholders and partners, combine resources in order to succeed at developing the business. This is handled as a project which we then lead from start to finish.

This project presents opportunity to become a skills development training centre and employment opportunities for the people of PKS. The business is labour intensive therefore, there will be a need for few locals to be absorbed either permanently or temporarily especially where big orders come flooding in.

Directors are skilled in the manufacturing environment as well as the finance industry, respectively. This gives an assurance that the key components of the business are in good hands as experience is most relevant to the project at hand.
